The Bosphorus Bridge, built in 1973, was far from the meeting the traffic requirements. Therefore, the Fatih Sultan Mehmed Bridge was constructed between 1985 and 1988. The opening date was at the same time as the 535th anniversary of the Ottoman conquest of the city and the bridge is next to the Rumeli Fortres. Therefore it was named after the conqueror. This bridge was especially planned to provide quick pass to the buses and trucks. Connected to the bridge ia an highway of 216 km length. |
